Christmas Comes Early for €11.3 Million Irish Lotto Winner in Dublin

A lottery player in Dublin looks set to have the Christmas of a lifetime after they picked up Saturday night’s €11.3 million Irish Lotto jackpot, putting an end to a long streak of rollovers.

The winning numbers in the 17 x rollover draw were 2, 6, 21, 23, 29, 44, and the Bonus Ball 41. With no jackpot winners for so many weeks running, Saturday’s jackpot stood at a mammoth €11,345,002 — a tantalising sum of money at any time of year, but especially alluring this close to Christmas.

“We’re delighted, it’s great news,” said Craig Madden, the assistant manager at the Top Service Station store where the winning Lotto ticket was purchased. “The place has been absolutely buzzing all morning,” he added.

The identity of the jackpot ticket-holder is not yet known, but it has been confirmed that they purchased a Quick Pick ticket on the day of the draw from the Amiens Street, Dublin, store. Their win marks the first time the jackpot has been struck since two players split the top prize of €4.5 million on Saturday, 1 October, and is the second-highest jackpot to be won this year.

But there is no guarantee that the winner is actually from Dublin.

“We have a lot of local customers but with us being on the main road, we get a lot of passing trade like taxis and couriers,” the assistant manager told the Irish Mirror. “It could have been someone coming in just to buy a packet of cigarettes or something.”

With the rollover streak having come to an end, Wednesday night’s Irish Lotto jackpot has been reset to €2 million — not quite the sum that the weekend’s mystery winner will soon see arriving in their bank account, admittedly, but a truly life-changing figure nevertheless.
