Dublin Trio Left Stunned By Big EuroMillions Win
A three-member family syndicate from Dublin has come forward to claim the first special EuroMillions prize to be given away as part of a special promotion this month.
The prizes are being awarded through the supplementary Ireland Only Raffle. There are usually 10 winners of €5,000 in every draw, but throughout May it has been working a bit differently. One of the lucky ticket holders is selected at random to receive an extra €250,000, taking the total payout to €255,000.
The first winning code - for the draw on Friday 2nd May - was I-RZR-24209. It was later revealed that the winning ticket was sold at Supervalu Killester, Howth Road, Dublin 3, and the prize has now been claimed.
“I checked the ticket initially thinking we won €5,000 since the raffle codes matched. I picked up the phone and called the two boys to tell them the news, and we were all pretty happy with that,” one of the winners recalled.
“But then, I went back and scanned the ticket online and saw 'You’ve won €250,000'. I thought surely that’s not right? So, I re-scanned it once more and it was still there! I had to call them back straight away. We were over the moon!”
Another member of the group said they thought the second call was to say it was all a joke, but the winners soon came forward after a few restless nights. One of them even kept the ticket under their mattress until they were ready to hand it over to lottery officials.
Asked how they plan to spend their money, one winner added: “You’d swear my car knows that I won a sum of money because it’s just starting to give up on me, so I suppose a new car is on the list. But seriously, this win means so much to us!”
Another member of the syndicate said: “I’m really looking forward to being able to look after my family - we're a large family between children and grandchildren, so it’s nice to be able to do that.”
There are nine EuroMillions draws altogether in May, so more players can look forward to winning a quarter of a million euros before the end of the month. With the jackpot also flying high above €150 million, it is a great time to take part in the game.
