Friday 13th Proves Lucky for Irish Lotto Syndicate
The number 13 doesn’t have a reputation for being the luckiest number, but it certainly proved fortuitous for a syndicate of Irish Lotto players from Dublin. The 13-strong group collected a prize worth €250,000 on Friday 13th after matching all six numbers in the Lotto Plus 2 draw on Wednesday 4th January.
The workplace collective, who are made up of receptionists and administrative staff, arrived to collect their six-figure sum during their lunch break, telling National Lottery officials: “Everyone has their plans for the win.” Meanwhile, the syndicate's leader joyfully declared that the win had come just in time to help everyone beat the January blues.
The group, whose ages range from 27 to 54, each took home an almost- €20,000 share of the prize, a windfall that has come just in time for the office workers. “We had come back to work following our Christmas break and sure enough everybody was moaning about being broke after Christmas,” the syndicate’s explained. “I checked the tickets the morning after the draw and I received a notification which told me to contact National Lottery headquarters.”
News of their win was certainly well received, and the tightly-knit collective, who first starting playing together two years ago, even “huddled around a phone in the office” as their leader made the all-important call. “When we were told we won the Lotto Plus top prize, we went absolutely mad, squealing and screaming down the phone. It was such an amazing feeling.”
Plans are already being made as to how each member of the group will spend their winnings: “Some will use it towards a deposit for a house while others have plans for cars and holidays. It is a lovely amount to win and share together,” the spokesperson for the gang announced. The ‘Lucky 13’s’ win has led to fellow office members feeling confident about their chances of success in the future: “Other Lotto syndicates have started in our building since our big win in the hope that our luck might rub off on them,” smiled the leader.
