Irish Lotto Winner Claims €2.4 Million Jackpot

Irish Lotto Winner Claims €2.4 Million Jackpot

The winner of a €2.4 million Lotto jackpot from Termonfeckin, County Louth, has already come forward to claim their prize following the draw on Saturday 2nd March. However, a local couple from the area have had to quash rumours they are the big winners, and the identity of the owner of the winning ticket appears unknown.

Ticket Bought From Madden’s Centra

There was one jackpot-winning ticket in the draw last Saturday, which matched all six numbers – 1, 3, 7, 27, 31 and 44 – to scoop the seven-figure windfall. The ticket was bought from a Madden’s Centra shop at the Maxol service station in Termonfeckin. There were over 45,000 winners in total, including one Match 5 plus Bonus winner of €98,068, and 22 Match 5 recipients of €1,578 who were one main number away from landing a share of the jackpot for themselves.

Following the draw, Ray Madden, owner of the Madden’s Centra store in Termonfeckin, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news, people in Termonfeckin are buzzing with news of the Lotto jackpot win today. This is a very busy shop, we have a staff of 38 and most of our customers are local.”

Confusion over Identity of Winners

Rumours quickly circulated around the Termonfeckin area that the Lotto winners were a local couple, and the duo came out publicly to deny they were the winners, which had been reported in local newspapers. Pauline Miller, who has been touted as the €2.4 million winner along with her husband, proclaimed: “The rumours are worse than not winning.” Her husband added: "I swear to Christ it wasn’t us. I’ll swear on anything you like that we didn’t win. It’s absolute madness the last few days. Everyone in the area thinks it was us and I’m telling you straight it wasn’t.

"I’m inside working away right now and my wife is also at work. This is worse than having actually won it because everyone thinks we have, we’ve been besieged, it’s non-stop. I honestly have no idea who won it but it wasn’t us.”

There has been no announcement yet about the identity of the winner, but National Lottery bosses have confirmed that arrangements are being made for them to pick up their prize.

More Celebrations in EuroMillions Plus

The big Lotto winner comes a day after another Madden’s Centra store in County Louth sold a winning €500,000 ticket in the EuroMillions Plus draw on Friday 1st March. The store in the Dromiskin area of the county is known to Madden, who said: “I am friendly with James Hallinan whose Centra shop in Dromiskin sold the EuroMillions Plus winning ticket on Friday night so Centra also has lots of celebrate!”

These two wins come off the back of an exciting few weeks for Irish lottery players, dating back to the Irish family syndicate who won a €175 million EuroMillions jackpot last month. There have also been other big wins in Daily Million, and National Lottery CEO Dermot Griffin explained: “What an incredible two weeks we have had in the National Lottery! We have created several millionaires with the big EuroMillions jackpot win, two Lotto jackpot wins, a EuroMillions Plus win and a Daily Millions win.”

You can try and continue the feel-good factor around Irish lotteries by entering this Friday’s EuroMillions draw for €62 million. There is also €2.5 million up for grabs in Irish Lotto, so visit our Lottery Tickets page to be in with a chance of winning. Good luck to everyone who takes part!
