Fortuitous Family Claim €28.9 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

A family from the west of Ireland have written their names into history as the 11th Irish winners of the EuroMillions fortune after coming forward to claim a €28.9 million jackpot. The group correctly matched the numbers 11, 20, 35, 37, 45 and the Lucky Stars 3 and 6 in the draw on Friday 7th July to land the eight-figure sum, an event that they claim is only just sinking in.

Having purchased their winning entry a day before the draw from Umesh Kumar’s Garryduff XL Store on Pound Road in the county town of Castlebar, the family, who have opted to remain nameless, were overjoyed to discover that they had landed the jackpot that quickly made them the envy of every lottery lover across the Emerald Isle.

Just seven days after their win, the fortuitous family made their way to National Lottery headquarters in Dublin to collect their prize. “This has come as a huge shock but we are thrilled,” they told EuroMillions officials. “This will certainly make life easier for us all and will secure our futures.”

Of course, the family have endured a week’s worth of mixed feelings following their success: “It has been a rollercoaster week with lots of butterflies in our stomachs and lots of different emotions,” they said. However, the clan refused to be rushed into making any rash decisions regarding the money: “We are keeping level heads and we will try to take it all in and we will give it time before we decide what to do with our winnings.”

The National Lottery’s Chief Executive, Dermot Griffin, was on hand to present the sizeable cheque to the family, before assuring reporters that they would be well looked after: "This is an incredible amount of money to win, and we have recommended that the winners get independent financial and legal advice.” Griffin was also delighted that Ireland could once again lay claim to a EuroMillions jackpot: “We always love seeing happy winners come into our winner’s room here in National Lottery headquarters.”

Two of the last three jackpots have been claimed, so if you would like to keep this EuroMillions euphoria going, you can pick your numbers online or play through any authorised retailer. Don’t miss out on your chance to win €25 million. Good luck!
