Irish Lotto Jackpot Finally Won, EuroMillions Superdraw Announced

Irish Lotto Jackpot Finally Won, EuroMillions Superdraw Announced

The Irish Lotto jackpot’s march towards its maximum amount was stopped in its tracks on Wednesday night as someone won more than €17 million, making them the third-biggest winner in the game’s history.

Nobody had matched all the Lotto numbers since 19th April, and the jackpot looked on course to reach its cap of €19.06 million. If this had happened, new rules would have been activated and the jackpot would only have been able to stay at its limit for five draws before it would have had to be won.

Instead, one lucky ticket holder correctly predicted the winning numbers - 2, 6, 20, 22, 26 and 39 - in the draw on 27th August. The Bonus Ball was 5, and more than 35,000 prizes were paid out altogether. See all the draw details.

No more information was released about the winner’s location immediately after the draw, but it was later confirmed they had played online and were located in Co Mayo. They have 90 days to come forward and claim their money, and will have to decide whether to share their identity and their story, or stay anonymous.

The record for the largest jackpot therefore remains the €19.06 million that was won by a player from Castlebar in Co Mayo in January 2022. Previously, a 16-member syndicate from Bennekerry in Co Carlow had landed €18.9 million in June 2008.

Megadraw in September

While the Lotto jackpot will now reset to €2 million, EuroMillions fans can look forward to another big event on Friday 26th September in the shape of a Superdraw.

Superdraws - also known as a Megadraws - are special draws when the jackpot is raised to a guaranteed amount. It will be boosted to €130 million for the upcoming Megadraw, so no rollovers will be required to build it up.

All the other rules stay the same, so the jackpot will carry on growing if nobody wins on the night. It has already been a momentous year for Ireland in EuroMillions, following the €250 million win for a family syndicate from Cork in June, so the stage could be set for another great payout.

EuroMillions draws take place every Tuesday and Friday, with Lotto draws held on Wednesday and Saturday. There are other great games to enjoy through the week, and you can even get involved in international lotteries such as Powerball and Mega Millions if you want! Go to the Tickets page to learn more.
