Holidaying Couple Win €1 Million in French EuroMillions
Every big lottery win could be described as a miracle, but the term is particularly apt for one lucky couple from Ireland who landed a $1 million prize whilst on holiday to Lourdes in France.
They decided to pick up a EuroMillions ticket during their visit to the holy town and were rewarded when they won the French-only My Million game. It is automatically included as part of the French version of EuroMillions, in the same way as the Ireland Only Raffle. It also works in a similar way to the Ireland Only Raffle, except that only one code is drawn (worth €1 million).
For the draw on 4th August, the winning code of FR 875 0961 was an exact match for the code on the couple’s ticket, leaving them thankful for the ‘spur-of-the-moment decision’ they made to take part.
Having become instant millionaires,the couple would now like to buy a second home in the south of France to celebrate the windfall.
“France already held a special place in our heart,” said the lucky winners. “Today we have even more reason to come back.”
EuroMillions is played in nine countries and is open to anyone above the minimum age, regardless of their nationality. If you play while you’re abroad like these lucky winners, keep an eye out for the local side-games such as My Million, and remember that the claim period may be different to the 90-limit in Ireland. You must also claim any prizes you win in the same country where you purchased your ticket. This couple had to contact the French National Lottery to get their money.
